While women make up 85 per cent of all consumer purchases, the majority of consumer products companies have a predominantly male senior executive team, a survey of 260 business leaders within India by retained executive search firm Athena Executive Search & Consulting, a member of IIC Partners, has revealed.

In India, consumer products companies should take note of this disconnect and focus on diversity while planning for future hiring for the leadership team and boards, says Bhavishya Sharma, MD of Athena Executive Search and Consulting. "As companies in India plan for future talent needs, diversity will certainly assume more importance going forward, especially in the consumer products and retail industries," he says.
